Why we Travel to Japan
our Passion for Nishikigoi
We visit the Southern Koi Breeders Yearly, which is a Privilege. Find out more about them here...
About Us
Grey’s Nishikigoi Ltd is run by Father and Son, Stephen and Anthony Grey.
We are
registered with Fish Health Inspectorate (FHI) CEFAS to import and wholesale
koi, and proud to be working with Yume Koi Japan striving to import the finest quality
koi direct from Japan.
We both
started this brilliant hobby back in 2002, and first started showing our koi in
2005, becoming well established on the show scene with great success, achieving
all the major champion awards at local and national level, from Grand Champion
to Baby Champion, and also the first Shinkokai award at a koi show in the UK. This show success is something we aim to
continue with our business.
We first visited Japan in 2006 and have travelled there many times since, extensively traveling around the heritage sites and gardens and of course visiting Niigata and southern koi farms and breeders. From 2016 we have been visiting the southern breeders of Japan every year, with the help of Mike Snaden of Yume Koi Japan, building further relationships with Mike and the southern breeders. Mike helped educate us of true Tategoi and gain further knowledge and experience about selecting koi for the future with true Jumbo potential.

The Other Reason
We Travel to Japan...
visiting Koi Breeders is a Privilege, but how many have had the opportunity to see what else Japan has to offer.
Japan
Our koi passion starting in 2002 has been keeping, growing and showing Japanese Koi Carp “Nishikigoi”. With this being the initial reason why we first visited Japan and Niigata in 2006, haven travelled there many times since. From 2016 we have been visiting the southern breeders of Japan every year, with the help of Mike Snaden of Yume Koi Japan, building further relationships with Mike and the southern breeders.

Wakai Trees
As well as being passionate about Nishikigoi, we are also passionate about Japanese pine trees, as we love the different styles of Japanese gardens.
But a few years back we found we could not purchase young Japanese pine trees back here in the UK. Certainly not young trees to grow, develop and style for our Japanese themed garden so we purchased a few seeds from Japan and over the last few years we have developed and perfected how to germinate and grow these seedlings here in the UK based on our climate.
And so our other business Wakai Trees Ltd was born!
